Foxmarks makes bookmarking easy

I received my new laptop today for work. Typically I do my bookmark management through del.icio.us/igudo and their wonderful Firefox Add-on. It allows quick and easy retrieval of links through simple text search and conveniently allows easy access via your mobile browser. However I do have some local bookmarks for frequent access. I usually only have the favicon on a toolbar to save space or a few icons in nested folders.

Getting new hardware is always a double-edged sword. Yes you get a shiny new virgin toy, dripping with opportunity to become your workstation from heaving. However, that also means you have to make it your workstation from heaven.

This means downloading your favorite programs, setting preferences, and all of the other mundane work that you have done time-and-machine again. And once again, today I found myself in this all too common situation. Getting Firefox up to speed was eased by an old ally in this war on my sanity.

I discovered Foxmarks a while ago and have been a loyal user since. It is a small Firefox Add-on that runs in the background synchronizing all of the Firefox installations you identify as yours through a central account. They have a pretty interesting business model that appears to have true potential in the near future. If you have multiple computers this is highly recommended. Even if you have a single installation, it provides a one-time worry-free backup-and-restore solution for free! Good innovative software that matters.
