On a flight, and it’s a good time to think:

1) Why is capitalism great? Because. it allow each individual to define success. Each person can say, “this. specific thing is what I care about, this is where I want to focus” and no one can argue. I am learning that a large organization can be the same way.

2) I am going to start a blog series on why blogging is important. Topics. will range from: why blogging helps everyone (even those who don’t blog or read blogs), why even terrible blogs matter, why big media is (and shouldn’t) be scared, etc… There is a lot to write on here. Hell, I could write a WBM (Why Blogs Matter) post right now but I’ll save it. A lot of content here that I am really interested in…

3) I have really come around to the 3-4 minute online video spot. Many would argue that I am a luddite without a TV but I’d contend it is because with my short attention span I can only stand 2-3 minutes of the same person talking. This means that they better have something concise and cogent to say. Normally, people on the web do.

4) My BlackBerry has completely changed the way I interact with the Internet. Email, IM, voice, and text. are all here. This post is all happening with me offline, to be sent when I reconnect, from my BB. I almost never do e-mail from a computer (except when I have an attachment) that wasn’t started or read on my BB first. The BB is my primary connection to the Web, and I am confident it or a similar device will be everyone’s in the near future. Disclosure: I am long RIMM.

5) I am currently over GA. I wonder what life I would have had if I grew up in GA

6) While speculating- what would corporate life have been like if Apple owned PowerPoint’s market share? What would the iShare be like? Would it have a per-slide word limit to ensure that buzz-word happy execs weren’t allowed to distract the audience from their lacking delivery?

7) The cabin of the plane sound remarkably similar, though slightly louder!, to the white noise the IBM plays in my building to allow drown out noise.

8 ) If you’re in the market for some new music, do yourself a favor and head to npr.org/allsongs. Best. Podcast. Ever. This podcast is my primary running material.

9) Just learned about The Hype Machine today — www.hypem.com. Run, don’t walk there, if you listen to music.

10) Which bank will be the first to fail? When will the Fed let one bleed and not pay out at the tax-payers expense?

11) Howard Lindzon had it right - “a-list bloggers” like Scoble and Arrington are setting themselves up for failure. Why? I remember reading or watching Michael Arrington say he is fighting a losing battle… As soon as he gets tired and stops writing- his brand is done. Exactly- blogging/journalism in general is running on a treadmill and when you are worn out, you will fall. Blogs with huge capital investments are no longer blogs — blogs are personal, and individual — blogs with multiple authors, contributors and money no longer offer the individual voice that makes the medium so unique and credible ($$$).

12) The moon is chasing the sun right now, both below me. I have never seen this before but the sunset on one side of a plane is giving way to a full moon rise on the other. Awesome view. You should be envious.

13) #12 begs the question: which is better? A sunset or moon rise? For me that’s easy. A sunset, with it’s spectacular oranges, yellows, red retreat over the horizon is much more dramatic than the viewing the night come to light.

14) Clouds are best viewed from above. Only then can you understand their depth and height.

15) What will come of twitter? It’s here to stay, it will be BIG but how are they going to monetize? It will be ads but how obtrusive will they be?

Landing up ahead …
