Hello. I’m Doug Williams

Doug Williams photo pictureI am a software developer passionate about business located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. I primarily focus my attention on the fields of technology and finance.

As a reader, blogger, and thinker, I prefer discussions over lectures so please make this a conversation.

My first screen name was igudo (eye-goo-doe). Igudo is a scramble of letters from “I, Doug.” Conveniently, I now find this to be an acronym for my passions:

Internet: The Internet has gotten me where I am today. It has educated me, gives a server an audience server, and allows anyone to run a business from their home. It’s power, control, and democratization for next to nothing, and I love it. Read.

Greed: Money, power, and wealth. Greed makes the world go around. Nothing has motivated the advance of society like greed. It is thought of pejoratively by most but I think greed is good when we choose to understand it then harness it to change the world. Read.

Users: Successful businesses have customers. Most businesses fail due to uncompelling execution. I study users as much as I think about algorithms and data structures. You can have a good product, but you can also have an unused product if you are not careful. Read.

Dougw: I have opinions. (This used to be dollars but I was constantly searching for how that wasn’t just greed renamed. More the point, dougw gives me liberty to talk about myself.) Read.

Opportunities: The doom and gloom crowd frustrates me. There are so many opportunities around that to focus on the dead or dying means living in yesterday’s world. The way I see it, opportunities are endless and bound only by our willingness to seize them. Read.

The fun stuff:

  • I currently work for a large technology company who is completely unaffiliated with what is said here.
  • I am not the Super Bowl XXII MVP quarterback from the 1979 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
